Perfume Blogs from around the blogosphere

I thought it might be nice to highlight a few blogs out there that have an interest in the realm of perfumery so found 5 that you might find of interest, with a little snippet from each of their sites.

The great thing about the internet is that in many ways it gives the relatively unknown and obscure perfumiers, perfume enthusiasts, scent makers etc a platform to discuss or promote their passions.

The world of perfume and scent isn’t totally about Chanel or Coco or Paco Rabbane or Aramis or any other number of well known brands that instantly spring to mind. There are 1000’s of other players out there experimenting with an assortment of oils and spices and essence that go towards making the smells that we love.

Juicy Couture Eau De Parfum - Sounds Kinda Yum!

Juicy Couture Perfume by Juicy Couture, 3.4 oz Eau De Parfum Spray for Women

Juicy CoutureJuicy Couture Perfume by Juicy Couture, A Lush Mix Of Watermelon, Mandarin, Passion Fruit, Apple, Tuberose, Caramel Crème Brulee With Woods And Patchouli.

Juicy Couture, Eau De Parfum - Sounds Kinda Yum, tum ti tum tum…

My silly little ditty aside, I was just reading that description of this Juicy Couture scent and it got me thinking about copywriters and words and how they conjure up an air of ‘I want that-i-ness’ - Putting the word ‘Juicy’ to one side for a moment and focusing on the description it’s interesting how they got right in there and opened it up with the words ‘A Lush Mix’, which straight off the bat sets the scene and creates a platform for the words that follow creating this idea of a lavish exhuberant blending of exotic fruits, some of which we mightn’t even have heard of, yet retaining some familiarity by including a few that we have.

I’d never heard of Tuberose or Patchouli before mind but have since learnt that Tuberose is:

a Mexican bulbous herb (Polianthes tuberosa) of the agave family which is cultivated for its spike of fragrant white single or double flowers 1

with Patchouli being:

Patchouli: A bushy shrub originally from Malaysia and India. Supposedly the leaves were folded into the cashmere shawls shipped from India to England during Victorian times in order to protect the fabric from moths; eventually, the scent became a badge of authenticity and customers refused to buy unscented shawls. Patchouli has a musty-sweet, spicy aroma. 2

Ok, I know I know, hardly earth shatteringly interesting sure, but the point is that overall in combination with the other fruits and spices they help create an air of mystery and exoticness that in general people find appealing.

If we can be seduced with a few well crafted words then we are already halfway there to embracing whatever it is that is seeking to captivate us and get us to part with our hard earned money. Afterall what better way to reward ourselves or a loved one even with something that has been carefully blended and made with such a mixture of the fresh and the exotic, the mysterious and the familiar.

As for the perfume itself, personally I’ve no idea what it smells like (yet) but having sat here and typed a few words about it, I don’t doubt that I’ll ask about it the next timeI’m in a store, just so I can have a sniff, heck I might even buy a bottle for a girlfriend even. I might even come back here and click this Juicy Couture Perfume by Juicy Couture, 3.4 oz Eau De Parfum Spray for Women link and buy it online even, who knows. It does sound kinda yum after all, dontcha think?

Burberry Brit for Men - One of My Favourites

Burberry BritBurberry Brit Cologne by Burberrys, 1.7 oz Eau De Toilette Spray for Men

Burberry Brit Cologne by Burberrys, Burberry Brit Is For The Modern Man, Who Still Wants To Remain Classic, Which Was Launched In 2004. A Refined, Sophisticated Aroma For Men, Is An Amazing Blend Of Greens, Hints Of Nutmeg And Tonka Bean.

This is one of my favourite mens scents out there today and would make an ideal xmas or birthday gift. I’m not one for explaining the subtleties of scents I’ll happily leave that to others. When I’ve worn it though and been dating and stuff, I’ve found that women on the whole have reacted favourably to it. Let’s put it this way, I’ve yet to have anyone say “Ewwww, what’s that stinky stuff that you are wearing” :)
Burberry has a bit of a chavvy connotation here in the UK, at least from a clothing perspective. Affluent and not so affluent thick chavs have taken to it a mark of class or respect. Although perhaps it’s fair to say too that those on the lower end of the economic scale are probably wearing replica or knock off items.

Still, the great thing about a scent like this is that very few people will even draw the connection between the chav factor so it’s a safe bet on that score.

If you are interested in buying Burberry Brit Cologne by Burberrys online you can get it from just £16.81 from fragrancex

psst…if you want the womens equivalent then you can get the Burberry Brit Perfume by Burberrys, 3.4 oz Eau De Parfum Spray for Women here.

Love Scent Pheromones - there’s chemistry baby

Most of us have heard or read about these things called Pheromones.

A pheromone is a chemical that triggers a natural behavioural response in another member of the same species. There are alarm pheromones, food trail pheromones, sex pheromones, and many others that affect behaviour or physiology. Their use among insects has been particularly well documented, although many vertebrates and plants also communicate using pheromones

Apparentley, being part of this thing called the earth, we humans have them too, and they are very powerful. Ever wondered why some people seem to be able to attract others with relative ease, yet aren’t particularly fantastically good looking? Might be because they have a great set of Pheremones invisibly working their magic on those around them.

Perfume companies use synthetic Pheromones in their perfume products and studies have shown how they work too.

Women’s perfume laced with synthetic pheromones acts as a sexual magnet and increases the sexual attractiveness of women to men, San Francisco State University researchers concluded in a study appearing in the current issue of the quarterly journal Physiology and Behavior.

source:SFSU

Powerful stuff huh? It would appear that our noses are finely tuned to channel these scents into a part ofour brains that are hot wired to our areas of desire and attraction.

The study, the first of its kind in the world to independently test a sex attractant pheromone for women, showed that of the 36 women tested, 74 percent of those wearing their regular perfume with the pheromone saw an overall increase in three or more of the following sociosexual behaviors: frequency of kissing, heavy petting and affection, sexual intercourse, sleeping next to their partner, and formal dates with men. In contrast, only 23 percent of the women who had a placebo added to their perfume saw an increase in these sociosexual behaviors.

Whilst we might well like the scent for perhaps its association with pleasantness, we will also like it because subconsiously our buttons are being hit too. Is it any wonder why an insecure girlfriend or boyfriend might baulk at the idea of you wearing that sexy sexy perfume or aftershave to a meeting with a friend of the opposite sex?

I’m reminded of a UK comedy show named Bottom, in an episode called Smells (see below) Richie and Eddie return home after another depressing night down the pub trying to pick up women and failing miserably. Richie is beginning to think that he is never going to get the chance to ‘do it’ until Eddie suggests that he puts an ad in the local paper. This idea revitalises Richie and he begins to read through the dating pages of the local paper. There he spots an ad for a pheromone spray that women are unable to resist, this is something that appeals to him even more and the two of them decide that they are going to have to try this out!

I did laugh a little when I thought to myself, wow so every time a person puts on an aftershave or perfume they are effectively saying ‘come and get me babies’ heh - the cool thing too is that if you really wanted to up your attraction stakes but didn’t want to be so blatant that you could buy an unscented pheremone product and therefore increase your sexiness factor into the bargain. This site here sells love scent pheremone based products, it’s amazing they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes too.I’m a little sceptical of course, I think most people are sold on twinkles in eyes and personality and plain old fashioned looks, yet it is nice to think too that there is some natural chemical science going on as well and that maybe that’s where the whole love thing happens, that ‘chemistry’ thing might not just be a saying after all!
